ARTIST REFRESHER COURSE | 4.28 & 4.30.20
treat gallery joined forces with our friends from alt_break to offer a FREE two-part Artist Refresher Course. Our curator Sherri Littlefield joined alt_break’s Audra Lambert, Kimi Kitada and Adam Zucker to review best practices and reach-out methods. We went over topics like knowing your practice, knowing your audience, and knowing when (and how) to initiate and maintain conversations with gallerists, dealers and curators.
We received an overwhelmingly positive response, and we hope to offer another specialized course in the future. Please e-mail info@treatgallery.org with any questions.

#TREATAMERICAPROJECT JURORS ANNOUNCED | 12.30.18
Jon Feinstein of Humble Arts Foundation and Jamie Martinez of artefuse and The Border serve as jurors for our #treatamericaproject.
treat gallery put together our most ambitious project to date. Our “treat America project” literally treated America through instagram posts. We selected 50 representatives from 50 different states who took over our “treatamericaproject” instagram handle for a week with one shared goal: treating America. Each user selected a state affiliated non-profit or charity that benefits through each image sale. The jurors selected one image per takeover, which will be on display during multiple exhibitions in 2019. Please join us for our upcoming exhibitions (more to follow:)

SCHOLARSHIP WINNER CASE JERNIGAN | 4.14.18
treat gallery + Authorized to Work in the US announce risograph scholarship recipient Case Jernigan!
The jurors were blown away by the quality of applicants received, but Case stood out with his statement, citing a passion for physical creation (not just digital!) and diving into a creative, risky world. We're happy to have you, Case - you're in great hands with Authorized to Work in the US, and we're looking forward to seeing what you create. Give Case a follow and checkout www.off-foot.com while you're at it!
BACKROUND
Earlier this year, treat gallery announced a collaboration with Authorized to Work in the US Press. We released a juried competition that covers expenses for one artist to participate in a monthly risograph subscription for 6 months.
WHAT'S A RISOGRAPH?
Risograph is a digital duplicator with a process very similar to screen printing. Risographs print one color at a time, so for every color, the color drum in the machine has to be changed by the operator. Even though they were invented for office use, they quickly became an artist tool thanks to their vibrant colors, speed and efficiency.
WHAT WE'RE COVERING
The cost of the subscription service ($60/month, for 6 months) for the selected artist or designer who wishes to self-publish. Every month, the accepted artist will get 1-2 color prints of their work in a limited edition of 50. The possibilities are endless with the prints. You can sell them, online or in-person at events, have give-aways to drive social media engagements. You can do portfolio exchanges with other artists.
The competition was juried by Cem Koçyıldırım of Authorized to Work in the US Press and Sherri Littlefield of treat gallery.
ABOUT AUTHORIZED TO WORK IN THE US
Authorized to Work in the US emerged from a foreign artist’s struggle for his work authorization in the United States. The artist received his MFA degree from Parsons Design & Technology program and got his OPT (F-1 Optional Practical Training) for a year. For his O-1b status (aka. O-1 Visa: Individuals with Extraordinary Ability or Achievement), he gathered reference letters from industry professionals, he put together his portfolio and his press appearances with many other documents. At the moment, he is authorized to work in the US for 3 more years and he uses his time in the United States to publish new work by local and international artists. He is also managing his own projects ranging from clothing to electronics and many more.
