In Mark Liam Smith’s series of digitally manipulated photographs of paint tubes, he imagines the paint tubes contain experiences, emotions, and attributes rather than pigment. Some paintings will be largely made up of compassion, love, or hope; whereas, other paintings may be painted with envy and greed. In Life Paint Series 3, Smith allows the viewer to disambiguate the direction of the work. Will fact or fiction be placed right side up? These complements demand allegiance through their placement. Smith lives and works in Toronto, Canada.
